New York County Team Vs Philadelphia County Team   10/09/2016

A New York county team competed against a Philadelphia county team as part of the 2016 International Famine Commemoration being held in Philadelphia.

The New York team was a mixture of Irish players based in New York and American born players.

Before the game both teams where introduced the Heather Humphreys Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

New York dominated the first half with a masterclass in scoring from wing half forward Kevin Palmer who scored a number of long range points from play as well as Shane Slattery and Peter Hatzer who showed fantastic skill in the attack.

In Midfield Billy Power excelled while in defence Kieran Slattery at fullback and Brain Melia at corner back both had a solid first half.
The 2nd half saw a number of changes with all players being given the chance to impress.

Palmer continued a good first half with some more fine scores with Ger McPartland at centre half back playing some fantastic Hurling.
A young New York defence started to shine with Tiernan Mathers and Kealan Walsh impressing.

Overall an impressive win for this young New York team.

A good step in the right direction for New York GAA , as an Adult Hurling team representing the county after a number years absent.
A huge thanks to Philadelphia GAA for the invitation.

Thanks to coaches Barry Walsh , Michael Dalton , Hurling Development Officer Emmett Conlon and Games Development Officer Simon Gillespie for all their help .
