New York GAA Junior A Hurling Championship Final

Ulster edge Waterford in Extra time.

Spectators at Gaelic Park last Sunday witnessed two teams giving it everything to win the Junior A Championship title

Ulster went into the final from a semi final win against Limerick while Waterford qualified through a win over Hoboken in their semi final clash.
The Junior A championship has produced some fantastic games this year from all 6 teams and the final did not disappoint.

The game started with both teams trading scores, Ulster had a one point advantage with 22 minutes gone in the first half. A very even first half closed with Ulster one point up.

Half Time Waterford 0-07 Ulster 1-05

The second half continued with both teams trading points and with 41 minutes of play Ulster where still leading by A single point (0-10 1-08). The next ten minutes provided some top class and exciting hurling with Ulster getting a second goal while Waterford responded by scoring some well taken points. Going into the last ten minutes it was still a close encounter with Waterford three points down (0-13 – 2-10). This was followed by a Waterford comeback which resulted in the game going to extra time.

The first period of extra time provided spectators with two more goals, one for each team.

At the end of First period of extra time it was Waterford 1-19 Ulster 3-15.

At the start of the second period of extra time both teams started to tire from an exhausting game of hurling but it was to be Ulster’s day as they were crowned champions in what was a thrilling game of Hurling

With the Junior B tittle going to Le Cheile after defeating Rockland and Ulster gaining the Junior A , all eyes now turn to next Sundays Senior Hurling championship final between Ulster and Tipperary . Can Ulster make it a double celebration or will the Tipp get the win ?
